An interview with journalists after Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting has revealed that following extremely positive talks, the ban on the microblogging platform Twitter will soon be lifted.

This was revealed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed. He said that the engagement with Twitter has been extremely positive without any acrimony as they have made their demands clear to Twitter.
He also said that the Twitter team has shown a lot of flexibility and the conversation has not been acrimonious.

Recall that on June 4, Nigeria indefinitely suspended Twitter’s operation in the country following the deleting of tweets made by President Muhammadu Buhari,
Nigeria also cited persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence as the reason for the suspension.

Mr Mohammed however told journalists that the areas still pending include setting up a Twitter office and having a Twitter staff of management cadre that will serve as the country representative.

He said that the presidency appreciates the patience of Nigerians and assured that they have made very tremendous progress.
