

Light showers of blessings ushered in the 2021 “Iwaji Kpakpando Cultural Festival” which held in grand style yesterday – October 19, 2021 on the grounds of Kpakpando FM HQ, Mbaukwu.
The event which was chaired by Former chief Judge of Anambra, Prof. NC Umeadi, was graced by the traditional ruler of Mbaukwu, HRM, Igwe PN Anugwu JP, who kick-started the event with the symbolic blessing and breaking of the Kola. The occasion was also committed into the hands of God by the PG, Mbaukwu Progressive Union – Rev. Cannon Josiah Ozue.

Speaking during the Yam-cutting rite, the Igwe described “Iwaji” as a cultural tool which can help promote peace, harmony and attract development to the community.


He also commended the chairman of Kpakpando Media Group, Chief Christian Ebede for his contributions to the community, urging him on, and promising to support the establishment.
Earlier in his opening remark, the chairman of the day, Prof. Umeadi spoke on the cultural and historical significance of “Iwaji”, emphasizing on the need for Igbos all over the world to embrace and further promulgate the cultural values.

Noting the essence of the celebration was to honour distinguished Sons and Daughters of the land and also showcase, promote and preserve our rich cultural heritage – a cause Kpakpando Media has been pushing, the General Manager, Comr. Monic Okechukwu, called for the promotion of the Igbo language and its rich cultural heritage, as it was a thing of pride that should be jealously guarded so it does not go into extinction.
In its Address, the Red Cross Society of Nigeria, Anambra branch, amply represented at the event, appreciated Kpakpando Fm for its collaborations with the group in disseminating useful information, adding that it was looking towards a continued cooperation on disseminating Health information to the community.



A highpoint of the event was the Presentation of awards and certificates of appreciation to deserving personalities, ushered in by the presentation of the“Monarch of the century Award”to the Igwe, Igwe PN Anugwu.

The state Governor, Dr.Willie Obiano was also awarded for his Outstanding Performance in Infrastructural Development, alongside the first lady, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano who also bagged the Humanitarian Service Award.
Mr Valentine Ozigbo and Prof. Chukwuma Soludo were also duly recognized at the awards ceremony.

Other awardees on the day include: Lolo Jennifer for her Humanitarian activities, Chief Uchenna Nwankwo (Dispora leadership award), Hon. Chief Chukwuemeka Nkem (Philanthropist of the year), Dr.Sampson Uchechukwu Ogah (CEO of the year) amongst others.





Certificates of appreciation were also issued to ardent listeners and contributors – Mrs Cordelia Ifeoma Nwosu (Madam Ghana), Mr Raphael Okoye amongst others.
The Iwaji Kpakpando Cultural Festival was also not short on entertainment value as the “Otawalikpo” and “Oko-man Ompa” masquerades made appearances, showcasing spirited displays to the delight of guests.



The Guests were also served energetic “Mbem” performances by Obiorah Okonkwo (Obi foreign) and Ifeoma Ndubude from “Truth is life International”.


The music – a blend of cultural and urban sounds and an energetic performance by Comedianne, Mama Onyeobodo also ensured there was no dull moment.
Notable individuals and groups such as “Truth is Life International” NGO, “Visionary Grass root Association” amongst others were present to witness the event.





They, alongside the sponsors were duly appreciated in the vote of thanks given by Kpakpando FM’s, OJ Udemezue.
