A woman who rejected a N5,000 bribe for her vote during the just-concluded Anambra governorship election has been rewarded a sum of N1 million by governor Willie Obiano.
The woman – Mrs Eunice Ngozi Onuekwusi ,a native of Ukwulu in Dunukofia Local Government Area was seen in the video that went viral rejecting vote-buying from an alleged political party’s representative, who was escorted by security agents, insisting that although she did not have N5,000, she would never accept any gratification that would make her vote against her conscience.
Also commending the woman, governor-elect, Soludo, noted that her action reflected the true spirit of Anambra and her the resilience of the Anambra spirit.
Mrs Onuekwusi was also celebrated at the Ezedike Palace in her community Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government as the traditional ruler, Igwe Uyanwa presented a certificate of recognition and cheque of N50,000 from the Macaulay Heritage Foundation to her, stating he felt proud that his community was trending for the positive reasons and her action was a major step to ending corruption.
He also prayed that this will encourage other persons to do the right things at all times.
On her part, Mrs Onuekwusi said selling her vote was equivalent to selling her right as she felt having independence of thought and conscience in the voting process was the best way to protect her future and that of her children.
