Commercial Driver Arrested in Connection With Death of Vanguard Reporter, Tordue Salem

29-year-old commercial driver, Itoro Clement has been arrested in connection with the death of deceased “Vanguard” Journalist, Tordue Salem.

Recall that Salem, a Benue state indigene who covered reports at the House of Representatives, was found dead on Thursday, weeks after going missing.

Parading the suspect on Friday in Abuja, the Police Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba said Clement was arrested following an investigation carried out by the Force Intelligence Bureau.

According to him, Clement who was driving a 2004 Model Camry with number plate BWR 243 BK confessed to having hit Tordue at about 10:00 pm on the night of October13 2021, around Mabushi area in Abuja but ran away.

Noting he did not stop to attend to the victim because he thought he was an armed robber – as that area was notorious for robbery attacks, the suspect stated that he reported himself to Police officers he met at a checkpoint and was told to go to the Wuse Police Station to report himself but he refused and instead went straight to “Good Friends Garden”, Mpape in Abuja where he normally parked his car, before proceeding home.

On how the suspect was arrested, the police PRO, stated that following investigations by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) the deceased’s phone was found at “Good Friends Garden” where the suspect parked his car and, although the phone had been sold by boys at the Garden, the SIM card had been used by the boys, which provided the lead for the arrest.
