Anambra State Government has again warned land developers against erecting illegal structures, saying it will not hesitate to pull down such structures.

The Chairman of the Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Barrister Chike Maduekwe, gaven the warning when  a joint task force including members of the Physical Planning Board, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, Ocha Brigade, among others embarked on the special enforcement operation in Onitsha and environs.

During the operation, a building under construction within the Onitsha Main Market, was marked for demolition.

It was learnt that there was no approval from relevant authorities for such building to be cited in the area initially mapped out as parking lot for the market beside the popular White House Administrative Block.

Barrister Maduekwe warned against building without approval, noting that this usually defaces the environment.

He maintained that government has to give such approvals to ensure that structures are cited at appropriate locations, adding also that the Market should be well planned.

He further disclosed that the board has initiated court processes manifesting as summons and court orders against recalcitrant developers who have continued to build without approval, to serve as a deterrent.

The Chairman of the Physical Planning Board also used the opportunity to call on some developers who are currently erecting illegal structures on the access road to the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport to desist as the State government has acquired one hundred meters from the road, for overriding public interest.
