Amudo village in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, Monday, embarked on rural road rehabilitation which would cost about N3.250 million.
According to the community, the road which cut across Amenyi market through Ifite road to Aroma junction, was first constructed by Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), and no attempt has been made to rehabilitate it by the state government since then.
The Chairman of Amudo community, Mr Timothy Motolu, while inspecting the pace of work at the road, explained that amount being expended on the road was high due to cost of materials, payment of workers, transportation and others.
He said the resources expended on the project was purely a voluntary contributions from members of the Village in order to fix all the failed portion of their roads, including the potholes and gullies in order to make the road motorable, decongest the traffic and ease the sufferings of commuters, and the residents generally.
The community leader also implored governor Chukwuma Soludo to construct a hanging bridge from former Anambra State Water Board to link Ifite to Amudo across the Enugu-Onistha expressway to ease the traffic jams at Aroma.
