The widows of Policemen who were killed in the State by gunmen have received items worth millions of naira by Police Officers’ Wives Association, POWA, in Anambra State.
The event, which held at the Police headquarters in Amawbia, was an emotional one for wives of the slain officers and other people at the event.
Chairperson of the group in Anambra State and wife of the Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Ikemi Echeng distributed food and empowerment equipment , which were given to 53 police officers’ widows and their children.
They gave out cartons of tomatoes, confectioneries, noodles, yoghurts, detergents, bags of rice, toiletries, salts, beans, drinks, and sewing machines.
Distributing the items , Mrs. Echeng, said that over 100 widows, who lost their husbands while on active service would benefit from the gesture.
She commended the women for allowing their husbands give their all to the society, adding that it was their responsibility to assist them by making sure that they were comfortable
She assured that their plight would continue to remain their priority.
Mrs. Pauline Ajibo, prayed for God’s blessings upon the benefactors, adding that the items would go a long way in alleviating their burdens as widows.
Thanking POWA for the kind gesture Mrs. Blessing Emmanuel, who received a Sewing Machine and food items, with a broken heart, wished that her husband was alive as she said the intervention would reduce her sufferings and those of others.
