100 Women Lobby Group Partners MacArthur Foundation In Training Female Youth Leaders On Electoral Integration, Political Participation
100 Women Lobby Group, Anambra State, in partnership with MacArthur Foundation, has organized a leadership training for female youth leaders.
The training was on how female youth leaders should define their goals, build themselves and become self reliant took place in Awka.
The training had as its theme, “Engagement With Female Youth Leaders On Improving Electoral Integrity and Accountability In Nigeria Project -Women’s Political Participation.”
Addressing the participants, the Special Adviser to the Governor On Youth Empowerment, Dr Nelson Omenugha, said that leadership is all about building humanity and addressing issues that confront the society for greater good and advised them to become future leaders they must work hard in their chosen fields, and constantly develop themselves.
He encouraged the participants to not to shy away from responsibilities and to always embrace those virtues that will propel them to positive aspects of life.
The State Co-Ordinator of 100 Women Lobby Group, Anambra State Chapter, Mrs Ifeyinwa Unachukwu, pointed out that research has shown that females are underrepresented in Nigeria’s governance, decision making and leadership space.
Mrs Unachukwu said that was why they deemed it necessary to organize the training programme, to highlight the importance of having women in governance, as well as increase sensitization on the need to develop women’s leadership skills from 18 years or secondary school level
Contributing, a resource person, Miss Chidinma Oramali, maintained that what the young leaders needs, is to build their self esteem, have positive thinking, be focused, and avail themselves at any opportunity that will improve their ideas and learning as well as believe in what they can offer the society.
Miss Oramali urged parents not to discourage their female children who are aspiring for higher positions, but to assist them achieve their dreams.
The Vice President, Students’ Union Government, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Miss Ifunanya Okoye, said that learning from older colleagues, sharing from their experiences, ideas and progress will be a stepping stone for them to achieve success in life, and appealed for more of such trainings, as well as to accommodate more young women.
