High Chief Dr Chinedu Umeadi, the Senatorial hopeful for Anambra Central Senatorial District under the Young Progressive Party, YPP, has described the youths as the engine that drives any nation and should not be toyed with.
Dr Umeadi, in a chat with journalists at his campaign office at Udoka Housing Estate, in Awka, asserted that the youths are the future of any society, therefore, should be well guided, which is why his Foundation, Dr Chinedu Umeadi Foundation has mapped out series of programs to help prepare them to be able to face their responsibilities in their homes, the state and the nation at large.
He pointed out that his program is all inclusive for the good of all, both old and young, but mostly focused on the youths, adding that over 60% of what he is doing now is for the Youths.
‘I am a youthful candidate with huge youths oriented programs, I have also been engaging them, my eleven points manifesto is simple and easy to understand, my foundation has been doing a whole lot of activities for the youths, that must be the reason they endorse my candidature.
“Interestingly, the endorsement of my candidature for Anambra Central Senatorial Race is not limited to the youths, many people are in support of my aspiration because they are tired of the old order” .
He said, “We talk about engaging the people, we talk about needs assignment of the people, we talk about going to represent the people and not representing ourselves. We care for what we will do for the people and not what we want for ourselves.”
The YPP Senatorial hopeful further informed that his Foundation was basically set up for programmes that directly affect the less privileged.
He explained that in the area of community development and capacity building, his Foundation has high Impact on community projects and has made donations to ongoing projects as well as started and completed new projects.
According to him, the NGO has also built hospitals, leisure centres, schools, and trading centres; as well as improved the state of community facilities across Anambra Central and beyond.
Also, he said, the Dr Chinedu Umeadi Foundation has a revolving loan scheme for people who already have businesses or starting new ones.
Speaking on healthcare Services….
Dr Umeadi lamented the deplorable state of the health sector, and pointed out that a lot has to be done in reshaping and upgrading the health facilities to appreciable standard for quality health care delivery.
He further spoke on ensuring that the citizens enroll and benefit from the National Health Insurance Scheme.
On security, the YPP Senatorial hopeful stressed the need for community policing in the country, saying the Federal Government should empower and equip local vigilantes and other community security outfits to check increasing rate of insecurity across the country.
He said that he would engage all relevant stakeholders in tackling security issues to protect lives and property, and noted that security is a collective responsibility and that all hands must be on deck to ensure that lives are secured in the state, and Anambra Central Senatorial Zone in particular.
He said, “Empowering, encouraging and equipping the local police is urgently needed at this electioneering moment, to help the Nigeria police and other sister agencies at the rural areas, secure the personalities and other innocent Nigerians travelling from the urban cities to their various villages to vote during the election.
According to him, “This will also help curb the menace of kidnapping, banditry, ritual killings, terrorism, herders/farmers clashes and gunmen activities that have become a major source of worry to Nigerians, especially in rural areas”.
The YPP Senatorial candidate assured that when he gets to the National Assembly, he would sponsor bills for laws that would focus more on security, Health, education and mostly, youth/women empowerment programmes, through skills acquisition.
Dr Umeadi also promised that he would improve on the lives of the youths in Anambra Central through a security structure, that will engage relevant stakeholders; the Police, vigilante groups, Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Nigerian Union Journalists (NUJ), Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Traditional rulers, Community President General’s, Community, Market Leaders in the course of bringing a synergy to bear, which will sustain an enduring security apparatus in the state.
He expressed confidence that YPP will win all the elective positions in the state going by the fact that the party is no longer an unknown party, as the moves by the party show that it has built structures across the three Senatorial Districts in Anambra, therefore, he has no fear in contesting the election with any of his opponents, whether they have been in the system for long or not.
Umeadi asserted, “A new direction is here, and the youths have come up this time to express their desire to institute a new order of governance that will institute transparency in government. My first six months will be to ensure that the youths are engaged through proper representation”.
Dr Umeadi, the YPP Senatorial hopeful further spoke on his plans to proffer lasting solutions to issues giving rise to strike actions in the health and education sectors by sponsoring motions and bills prohibiting industrial action in the sectors, while engaging the stakeholders in serious discussions, so as not to infringe on their fundamental human rights.
“Strikes have destroyed a whole lot of people, I have seen good boys and girls turn bad just because their academic programs got disrupted, similarly, lives have been wasted in the health sector on the account of industrial action, there must be a comprehensive solution to the ugly development”,
On what his immediate focus would be in the red chamber of the National Assembly, Dr Umeadi said he would ensure that things are rightly done, following due process for an orderly society.
The YPP Anambra Central Senatorial candidate also promised to always ensure judicious allocation and use of constituency project funds.
High Chief Dr Chinedu Umeadi, therefore, appealed to Journalists to only dish out issue-based campaign information to help install the New Order, to build a virile society every body will be proud of.
