2023 Election: LP Chieftain, Okwenna, Urges Ndigbo Resident Outside Igbo Land To Ensure They Cast Their Votes
A Labour Party Chieftain, Dr Ifedi Okwenna, has urged Ndigbo resident outside Igbo Land, not to be afraid, but to ensure they out and cast their votes on the election day.
Okwenna, who is the Head of the Intervention Team of the Labour Party, LP, Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi and his running-mate, Dr Yusuf Datti-Ahmed, gave the advice while interacting with journalists on Thursday, 1st February, 2023, at Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Awka.
He assured that efforts are being made to ensure adequate security during the election.
Dr Okwenna expressed confidence that the LP’s Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi and his running mate are actually pulling much support across the country, and will eventually win the race.
Okwenna stated that people of other regions of the country are complaining that the people of the South East region, otherwise, known as Ndi Igbo usually do not show interest in casting votes during elections.
He observed that the complaint is even worse among South Easterners living outside Igbo land, and urged them to make sure that they troop out and cast their votes in the coming polls.
“Don’t exit your places of residence to return to your homes in the South East. Stay and go and cast your votes during the election because the task of rescuing this country is very critical for every Nigerian”, he stressed.
He said, Obi-Datti presidential ticket has overwhelming acceptance across all the geo-political zones in the country, ” I assure you that the LP presidential candidate will defeat his two strongest opponents: Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Adamawa state, and, Ahmed Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos state”.
Okwenna also dismissed claims that some stalwarts of the party in some North East states, including Bauchi, Borno, Adamawa, Taraba have left the party on the basis that the party’s presidential candidate has not been carrying them along in the campaigns and that the party lacks structure in their area, stating that those who left were known “moles planted in the party by some state governors to create wrong impression.
The Head of LP Intervention Team rather explained that they knew that there were some persons planted by some governors within the LP, so they have been watching such characters saying “they (the moles) don’t know that we are smarter than them. We know that they are in the party to make money because they are planted as moles by some governors to destabilise our party”.
He further made it clear that Obi is not running for the presidency of Nigeria because he is an Igbo man, but because he is competent and has the capacity and compassion to create a new Nigeria.
“The presidential project of Mr. Peter Obi and his running-mate, Dr. Yusuf Datti-Ahmed is an act of patriotism and nationalism. They want to create a new Nigeria where there will be security, employment, productive economy and where every Nigerian will live harmoniously with each other irrespective of ethnicity, religion, etc” Okwenna asserted.
