As the UK Home Office escalates its efforts to identify and take action against international students who violate immigration regulations, it is crucial for Nigerian students studying in the UK to strictly adhere to their visa requirements, particularly the 20-hour work limit during academic terms.

Since the beginning of 2023, the Home Office has significantly increased its proactive measures, specifically targeting international students who exceed the 20-hour weekly work limit. Students surpassing this limit may face arrest and detention.

Nigerian students constitute one of the largest groups of international students in the UK, experiencing a remarkable 73 percent year-on-year surge in sponsored study visas.

This means an increase from 33,958 in the year ending June 2022 to 58,680 by June 2023. Many of the students confront distinct financial challenges, such as the rising cost of living in the UK and the recent depreciation of the naira, both of which impact their financial plans.
