The Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Ogbo-Ogwu Bridge Head Market Union, Onitsha, Mr. Ndubuisi Chukwuleta, has commended the quality service rendered at the Onitsha Market medical outreach organized by the leadership of the market.
He made his feelings known when he paid a thank-you visit to the Hospital Administrator (HA), Dr. Innocent Umeakunne, in his office at Enugwu Ukwu.
The Market leader said that the team of medical experts brought to the programme rendered quality healthcare services to the beneficiaries, adding that testimonies have started pouring in.
“One of the beneficiaries said he has been ill for several years, took different medications without getting better, but just four days he took the drugs given to him during the medical outreach and got well”, the Market Chairman narrated.
He thanked the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, for his support and approval for the visit of the medical team that attended to people’s health needs during the outreach.
He also recalled that in the past, people have slumped in the market and before reaching the hospital, they were confirmed dead.
He, therefore, suggested the establishment of a clinic in the market with health personnel attending to members of the market and the public who have health challenges.
“Though we are conversant with names and prices of drugs, we do not have knowledge of how to administer them because we are not doctors or pharmacists.
“We know the names of drugs and their prices but we cannot prescribe drugs to anyone because we are not doctors or pharmacists.
“For over 39 years of the establishment of this market, this kind of event has not taken place.
“I will like to leave the legacy of making the medical outreach an annual event for other people to emulate.
“This is because some of the members hardly have time to visit hospital, so this will enable them get free access to quality health care services.”
More importantly, he said he would continue to encourage members of the union to visit the hospital when they are sick for proper treatment.
The hospital administrator, Dr. Innocent Umeakunne, thanked the Chairman for the free medical outreach where over 500 people benefited.
“I am very happy that people came out en- mass to access health care services which lasted for 4 days, showing their belief and trust in the services of the state government doctors.”
He said that he had never witnessed this kind of turn out in other free medical outreaches he has participated in.
The doctor commended the market executive for their planning which, he said, was now yielding good results from the testimonies from the beneficiaries.
According to the HA, over 10 different tests were carried out during the medical outreach, free of charge, and treatment commenced immediately.
He charged the Chairman to continue feeling the pulse of his people to give them free and good health care services.
