Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has made it clear that Nigeria will remain neutral amidst the ongoing power struggles among global superpowers.

In an exclusive interview with MSNBC, Minister Tuggar emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to strategic autonomy, stating that the nation will not favor any side as world powers vie for dominance.

As China and Russia increase their influence in Africa, Nigeria stands firm on its history of non-alignment, despite pressures from northern leaders to reject the establishment of US military bases in the country—a claim the US government has since denied.

Minister Tuggar highlighted Nigeria’s democratic values, citing seven successive elections since 1999 and the country’s preference for African-led solutions to security issues. He proudly referenced Nigeria’s role in resolving conflicts in Sierra Leone and Liberia and its current collaboration with neighboring countries through the multinational joint task force.

Furthermore, Minister Tuggar advocated for Nigeria’s inclusion as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, pointing to the nation’s status as Africa’s largest democracy and its military’s success in combating Boko Haram insurgents.
