Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered an immediate investigation into the lifeless body of a baby found in a sack at a refuse dump along Ifite Road, Awka, on Sunday, 2nd June,2024.
A statement issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Tochukwu ikenga, on Sunday, 2nd June 2024, said preliminary investigations revealed that the child should be a day old and was abandoned by yet unidentified woman suspected to be the mother.
He said that the body has been recovered and that Police are currently working with some eyewitness information at the scene for possible arrest of the perpetrator.
According to him, the CP decried moral decay in Society and described the act as ungodly, barbaric, and inhuman.
In the statement, the CP also urged Parents/Guardians to pay greater attention to their children/wards, and called on anyone with useful information that can aid the investigation to come forward to the Police Command headquarters in that regard.
