The Nigerian government will not tolerate calls for coups or the waving of foreign flags, as stated by defence chief Christopher Musa after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu and security chiefs on Monday.
The meeting addressed recent protests in northern states like Kaduna and Kano, where demonstrators raised Russian flags and called for a coup.
Musa said that these actions are deemed treasonable offenses and emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to democracy and warned that security agencies will take necessary actions to defend it.
The protests, part of the #EndBadGovernance movement that began on August 1, have led to violence, curfews, and several deaths.
