The Federal Government has announced the formation of an Agriculture and Water Resources Joint Action Committee aimed at addressing food security challenges and combating inflation in Nigeria.
The initiative was disclosed by the Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Aliyu Abdullahi, at the National Youth Convention in Abuja.
Senator Abdullahi highlighted that the committee’s formation aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s food security agenda. The Minister emphasized the importance of all-year-round farming, noting that Nigeria cannot rely solely on a six-month farming season to feed its over 200 million population.
The new partnership between the Ministries of Agriculture and Water Resources aims to maximize the use of Nigeria’s abundant water resources through dry-season farming.
This approach is expected to boost food production, enhance farmer livelihoods, and encourage youth and private sector participation in agriculture.
In response to recent flooding, the Minister stressed the need for dry-season farming to mitigate the impacts of climate change and ensure food security across the nation.
