The Osun State Government on Friday announced the closure of Prism Steel Mill in Ikirun and several other business premises in Ede for non-compliance with tax regulations and tax evasion. The move was confirmed in a statement by Seun Ayeni, Information Officer for the Osun State Internal Revenue Service (OIRS), following an enforcement operation led by OIRS Chairman, Mr. Adesola Adewumi.
According to Adewumi, the affected businesses had been repeatedly served with harmonized demand notices, urging them to meet their tax obligations to the state. However, their continued nonchalance led to the sealing of their premises.
Despite multiple warnings and a deadline extension by Governor Ademola Adeleke, these businesses failed to fulfill their statutory responsibilities, Adewumi stated, expressing disappointment at their refusal to comply.
The OIRS chairman urged all businesses operating in Osun State to promptly remit their taxes, highlighting that the state government is committed to fostering a conducive business environment while ensuring compliance with tax laws.
