The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has debunked an online report alleging that N54 billion forfeited by some associates of former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele was “shared” among certain ministers and aides of President Bola Tinubu in collaboration with its officials.
EFCC’s position is contained in a Wednesday statement signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.
The anti-graft commission said none of its officials has ever been involved in the “sharing” of any proceeds of forfeited assets, maintaining that the notion of “sharing of proceeds of forfeited assets” is strange to the commission.
The EFCC said the author’s withholding of information about when and how the sharing took place and who got what confirmed that nothing of the sort took place.
The anti-grant commission said dishing fiction to the public as news is the height of irresponsibility and it would not tolerate any attempt to defame its hard-earned reputation.
