Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Bode George, has called on ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar to hold off on any presidential ambitions until 2031. In a statement on Wednesday, George emphasized that, after eight years of leadership under former President Muhammadu Buhari from the North, power should remain in the South until 2031, according to the principles of fairness and equity.

Responding to George’s remarks, Atiku’s media adviser, Paul Ibe, criticized the statement as insensitive and premature, stating that Atiku’s focus is currently on addressing the immediate needs of Nigerians, not the 2027 presidential race.

Reports suggest that Atiku and other northern leaders are considering a power shift back to the North in 2027, but George insists that the presidency must stay in the South to maintain balance and respect within the PDP.
