The Anambra State Government has issued a warning to its citizens, particularly those residing in flood-prone areas, about the rising water levels of the River Niger.
In a press release obtained by our correspondent on Monday, the State Government alerted residents of vulnerable local government areas, including Anambra East, Anambra West, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Awka North, Ihiala, and Ogbaru, to be on high alert.
According to the Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu, the warning was prompted by the Director General of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), Mr. Umar Mohammed.
Mohammed attributed the rising floodwaters to activities in the River Niger System, specifically in Niger Republic and Mali, which are gradually moving towards Nigeria, starting with Kebbi State.
