The Enugu State Government has created a new Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources as part of its initiative to introduce Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and affordable transportation.
Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, announced the decision following a State Executive Council meeting, emphasizing the need for oversight in energy and mineral investments. The ministry will also regulate the implementation of the recently signed Enugu State Electricity Law.
Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Obi Ozor, highlighted that the government is not only investing in CNG buses but also developing the necessary infrastructure for safe operations. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce transportation costs and attract private sector investment in the state’s transport sector.
The establishment of this ministry reflects Enugu’s commitment to enhancing its energy sector and utilizing its abundant mineral resources effectively.
