Nigeria #endSARS Protest Shootings: What to Know | Time

The League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV) Spread across the 36 States of Nigeria and the FCT, says it stands behind Nigerian Youths.

In a release in Awka, signed by Honourable Dame Esther Uduehi, the group condemned the killings of Unarmed Youth Protesters by uniformed personnel who are paid and maintained by the Tax Payers’ money.

It joined other NGOs and Civil Society Organizations to express their total condemnation of the attacks, injuries and massacre of unarmed young protesters at the Lekki Tollgate axis, Lagos by uniformed Military/Police personnel, adding that Cctv Videos and TV interviews have shown and proven so.

It noted that the unarmed youths’ protestors were carrying the Nigerian flag, singing the National Anthem when they were being fired at by uniformed military personnel, leading to the death and injury of many protestors.

The group also observed that the youths were peacefully calling for good governance and an end to police brutality which is their fundamental human rights.

The women group noted that for the first time, the country witnessed a national protest that was harmless, spontaneous and like a movement that cut across all spheres of people, groups and professionals, pointing out that all Government needed to do was to provide protection for the Protesters as is the case in most civilized and Democratic Societies.

It said that what they were protesting against are on all fours with the wishes of all honest and progressive people of the country who have been suffering in silence.

The women posited that for days, the Youths sacrificed themselves in the protest, stating that if government had done the needful, the situation would not have escalated.

They however, frowned at the destruction of properties and public assets in Lagos and other States, appealing to them to desist from such retaliatory acts which can only add to the pains of COVID-19.
