Health workers under the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA) have announced a seven-day nationwide warning strike starting at midnight on October 25. JOHESU National President, Kabiru Minjibir, announced an expanded National Executive Council meeting in Abuja.
Minjibir expressed disappointment over the government’s lack of response to critical issues affecting the welfare of healthcare workers. He warned that if demands are unmet within the seven-day period, an indefinite strike may follow, urging the federal government to use all options to resolve the dispute and prevent a total shutdown of health services.
The unions are demanding immediate action on several issues, including implementing the CONHESS salary adjustment, payment of arrears, and reviewing the retirement age for health workers. JOHESU has also called for suspending the National Health Facility Regulatory Agency’s activities and restoring funding for essential health institutions.
