Nigeria’s first private television station, Desmims Broadcast Nigeria, and Alheri Radio, Northern Nigeria’s oldest private radio station, have suspended operations due to harsh economic conditions.

In a statement released in Kaduna, Acting General Manager Idris Mustapha cited the escalating cost of power as a major factor making operations unsustainable. He added that declining patronage from struggling businesses has further strained the stations’ finances.

This suspension impacts millions of loyal viewers and listeners, particularly the Hausa-speaking audience, marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s media landscape.

Management assures the public that services will resume once the financial situation improves and apologizes for the inconvenience caused.
