Rivers Police Arrest Five Members Of “One Chance” Gang, Seize Operational Vehicle
Rivers State Police Command has busted a major criminal syndicate operating in the state.
The police arrested five suspects linked to a notorious “One Chance” gang on January 28, 2025, along the Eastern Bypass in Port Harcourt.
The arrest followed a daring operation that saw a swift response from the police in one of the cases where criminals posing as innocent commuters trick and Rob unsuspecting passengers.
It was gathered that the surveillance team, part of the Hyper City Unit, received a frantic distress call from a female victim who had just fallen prey to the gang. The victim, a resident of Federal Housing Estate in Trans-Amadi, Port Harcourt, reported that her phone had been snatched by the occupants of a green Volkswagen Vento Saloon car with the plate number ANAMBRA FGG 40 AA.
Within minutes of receiving the distress call, the eagle-eyed officers in a swift action, intercepted the vehicle which to the capture of the five suspects. The arrested suspects include :
Ifeanyi Ugo, 45-year-old male;
Paulina Ibe, 45-year-old female;
Nneka Precious Sunday, 30-year-old female;
Christopher Ibe, 31-year-old male;
Oyinyechi Ibe, 48-year-old female.
The suspects, now in police custody, are facing charges related to theft and organized crime. The vehicle used in the crime was also seized, further bolstering the case against the gang.
The Rivers State Police Command has assured the public that investigations are ongoing, with officers working around the clock to uncover further details of the syndicate’s operations.
Confirming the report, Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, restated the Command’s resolve to tackle the increasingly dangerous “One Chance” criminal syndicates. These groups, which disguise themselves as ordinary tricycle and taxi operators, have long been a scourge for commuters in the region. However, thanks to the heroic efforts of the police, another criminal network has been dismantled, ensuring safer streets for all.
This arrest sends a strong message to criminals operating within Rivers State: the police are vigilant, and no criminal activity will go unpunished. Stay alert, stay safe!
