The Nigerian Federal Government has announced plans to cancel its Visa-on-Arrival policy and introduce mandatory landing and exit cards for visitors, set to be pre-filled before entry.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement during the closing of a weeklong capacity-building event for Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) personnel.
This move follows concerns over the effectiveness of the Visa-on-Arrival system, which was introduced in 2020. Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the new system will be automated, integrating Interpol and criminal records databases for real-time background checks. The reforms, aimed at ensuring security and better migration management, are set to be implemented between March and April 2025.
