On Foreign News,
Kyiv announced on Friday that it had recovered the bodies of 909 fallen Ukrainian soldiers in the largest repatriation of remains since the war with Russia began in February 2022.
The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War confirmed the return of the bodies, thanking the International Committee of the Red Cross for its assistance. The remains were retrieved from Donetsk, Lugansk, and Zaporizhzhia territories claimed by Russia as well as morgues in the Russian Federation, likely from Ukrainian soldiers killed in battles in Russia’s Kursk region.
This marks the seventh mass repatriation of 500 or more Ukrainian bodies since October 2024, underscoring the heavy toll of the conflict. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky previously stated that over 46,000 Ukrainian troops had been killed and 380,000 wounded.
In contrast, Russia has not publicly acknowledged similar returns, with reports indicating that only 43 Russian soldiers’ remains were exchanged in this latest repatriation.
