The Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank are underway in Washington amid global trade tensions. The meeting will take place from Monday, April 21 to Saturday, April 26.
The meetings follow a steep U.S. tariff of 134% on Chinese goods, sparking retaliation from Beijing. President Trump’s policies have raised concerns over the future of multilateralism, with IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva warning of significant global risks.
Nigeria’s Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun and Central Bank Governor, Mr Olayemi Cardoso are attending, hoping to attract investments and secure support. Despite U.S. tariffs, Nigeria may be spared due to its oil-dominated exports, but falling oil prices threaten the national budget.
