In a landmark gesture of community development and philanthropy, Chief Onuorah Osonwa, Founder and CEO of the Manari Osonwa Foundation (MOF), has officially handed over a state-of-the-art primary health care center to the Anambra State Government. The commissioning ceremony took place on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the Obunagu Amikwo village square in Awka South Local Government Area, drawing an impressive turnout of dignitaries, community leaders, and residents.

Speaking at the event, Chief Osonwa dedicated the health facility to the memory of his late mother, emphasizing that the project was inspired by a commitment to humanity rather than politics. Beyond healthcare, the facility also includes a fully operational ICT center, which has already produced 15 graduates—each receiving a personal laptop as part of a broader youth empowerment initiative. Osonwa reaffirmed his commitment to equipping more youths with digital tools and skills.

As part of the commissioning activities, the Manari Osonwa Foundation also conducted a free medical outreach, where over 150 individuals benefitted from free eye examinations and received prescription eyeglasses at no cost.

Prof. Chinedu Nwoye, Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief Protocol to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, lauded Chief Osonwa’s contributions, describing him as a devoted ally and a shining example of the impactful partnership between government and the private sector. He said that Anambra is seeing the dividends of productive public-private collaboration.

Receiving the facility on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Health, Hon. Afam Obidike, commended the initiative, stating that accessible healthcare is one of the most vital forms of empowerment any community can receive. He urged other philanthropists to follow Osonwa’s example, especially in the areas of health and education.

Chief Osonwa’s philanthropic record in Obunagu goes far beyond the hospital. He has installed solar-powered streetlights across the village, consistently paid monthly stipends to all residents aged 70 and above for over two years, and at the event, he empowered 15 local students with laptops. Additionally, the first two mothers to deliver babies at the new health center received gifts valued at over ₦1.2 million.

In appreciation, the Obunagu community presented Chief Osonwa with a recognition award, handed over by Mr. Dan Dibor on behalf of village elder Chief Mezie Nworah. Representing Governor Soludo, the Mayor of Awka South, Hon. Chinedu Okafor, pledged the government’s support through the provision of medical equipment and drugs, the construction of the access road to the facility, and the official naming of the adjoining street as “Manari Osonwa Crescent.”

The well-attended ceremony featured key government officials, including APGA State Chairman Chief Ifeatu Obiokoye, Managing Director of Anambra ICT Agency Hon. Fred Agbata, and Commissioner for Environment Hon. Dr. Felix Odimegwu, among others.
