Nigeria loses about 28% of the electricity it generates due to poor infrastructure, long distribution lines, and technical faults. This is according to Prof. Anthony Adoghe of Covenant University.

Delivering the university’s 33rd inaugural lecture, Adoghe said Nigeria ranks third in power loss in Africa, after Cameroon and Togo. In contrast, Germany loses just 4.3%.

He emphasized that upgrading infrastructure, embracing solar power, and restructuring the power sector are vital to ending energy poverty.

Dr. David Oyedepo and CU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Anake, also called for urgent reforms to end Nigeria’s electricity crisis.
