A traditional ruler in Abia State, Eze Okey Ananaba of Okahia Autonomous Community in Obingwa LGA, has raised concern over large-scale land acquisition by suspected herdsmen.
Speaking during a town hall meeting with the Greater Aba Development Authority, GADA, Ananaba warned that over 5,000 plots have already been acquired in strategic communities near Akwa Ibom State and behind NINLAN, Aba.
He alleged the herdsmen carry illegal arms and destroy farmlands, threatening vigilantes and farmers.
The monarch noted that repeated petitions to the Abia State Government have yielded no response.
He urged Governor Alex Otti to investigate and prevent further escalation, warning of the type of violence already seen in Benue and Plateau States.
