Army urges slain soldiers’ widows to come forward with claims

The Nigerian Army has urged widows and next-of-kin of fallen soldiers with pending welfare claims to come forward with verifiable documents.

This follows allegations of neglect, extortion, and sexual harassment in processing death benefits.

In a statement on Sunday, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, described the allegations as disturbing and not reflective of the Army’s policies.

She said benefits are disbursed after due verification. No formal complaints, she added, had been filed through the Army’s Human Rights Desks.

While expressing sympathy with affected families, the Army emphasized that proper documentation is key to resolving claims and ensuring transparency in the welfare process.
