The Federal Government has dropped plans to launch a national carrier and will now focus on strengthening local airlines.

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo made this known during a book launch in Lagos. He said the Tinubu administration is committed to policies that support domestic carriers, including revised aircraft insurance regulations to lower airfares and improve aircraft access.

Keyamo also revealed plans to demolish and rebuild the old terminal at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport due to its poor state.

FAAN boss Olubunmi Kuku highlighted growth in the aviation sector, with 39 certified airlines and over 2,100 pilots. The aviation industry now contributes $1.7 billion to Nigeria’s GDP.
