The Supreme Court has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Nigeria’s 36 state governments and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum challenging how the Federal Government manages recovered looted funds.
In a unanimous ruling, the seven-member panel declared the case wrongly filed at the apex court. Justice Mohammed Idris, delivering the lead judgment, said the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court.
The states had accused the Federal Government of diverting over ₦1.8 trillion and other recovered assets into unauthorized accounts, violating constitutional provisions.
They demanded that the funds be paid into the Federation Account for fair distribution.
The court, however, declined jurisdiction, effectively ending the legal challenge.
