The Federal Government has launched a ₦100 billion solar electrification programme to power schools, hospitals, and government buildings across Nigeria. Known as the National Public Sector Solarization Initiative (NPSSI), the project aims to replace diesel generators with clean, distributed solar energy systems.
The initiative was unveiled in Abuja through a joint agreement between the Rural Electrification Agency, Budget Office, InfraCorp, and MOFI. REA’s MD, Abba Aliyu, called it a landmark step in Nigeria’s energy transition.
Fully funded in its first phase, the NPSSI will reduce carbon emissions, cut public energy costs, and create local jobs. Future phases will attract private investment, fostering sustainable energy growth across the country.
