King Charles III led nationwide commemorations Friday marking 80 years since Victory over Japan Day, honouring World War II veterans and survivors.
Joined by Queen Camilla, Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and dignitaries at the National Memorial Arboretum, the King laid wreaths, observed a two-minute silence, and met veterans aged 96 to 105 who served in East Asia and the Pacific.
In an address, Charles praised their courage as “a flame that shall blaze for eternity” and urged future generations to uphold their values.
Flypasts by the Red Arrows and WWII aircraft added to the solemn ceremony, which was mirrored by events in London, Belfast, Edinburgh, and around the UK.
