All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Joe Igbokwe has harshly criticised Nollywood actress Rita Edochie for calling on the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Edochie, in a recent Instagram post, appealed for Kanu’s freedom, condemning what she described as double standards in the government’s handling of his case. She argued that his continued detention was unjust and urged the authorities to free him immediately.
But in a swift response via his Facebook page, Igbokwe dismissed her plea, declaring that it made him “feel like vomiting.”
“I just read Mrs. Rita Edochie’s plea for Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom and I feel like vomiting. Maybe she did not know what happened in the South East from 2015 to 2025. This is unbelievable. Mama biko nakpuo be ji. Okwua kariri gi. Alu melu,” Igbokwe wrote, referring to the violence and unrest linked to IPOB activities in the region.
The APC stalwart has long been one of Kanu’s fiercest critics, often condemning IPOB’s separatist agenda and its impact on security in the South East.
Nnamdi Kanu, arrested in 2021, remains in detention facing charges of treasonable felony, terrorism, and incitement. His prolonged incarceration has continued to generate debate across Nigeria, with human rights activists and cultural figures like Rita Edochie demanding his release.
The Federal Government, however, has insisted that Kanu must face trial, stressing that no one is above the law.
This latest clash highlights the deep divisions over the IPOB leader’s detention, with supporters seeing him as a freedom fighter, while opponents, like Igbokwe, accuse him of destabilising the South East.
