Anaocha Council Area, Anambra Central Senatorial District, and indeed, Anambra State in general have continued to count their blessings since Senator Victor Umeh, Ohamadike Ndi Igbo, emerged as the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Just a few weeks after offering Sixty million Naira (N60m) scholarship awards to 327 Indegent students in tertiary institutions, Senator Umeh has made another remarkable history by stirring up widespread jubilation in Agulu, Anaocha LGA of Anambra State, following the completion of the long-awaited Nneoha–Nwanchi Village Road.
The 1.2-kilometre road, has been described as a key infrastructure project facilitated by Senator Victor Umeh, and
constructed in adherence to stipulated modern engineering standards, with an 18-foot width and reinforced concrete drainage on both sides.
It provides a smooth and reliable access route linking Nwanchi through Nneoha to Amaezike Village, thereby opening up the area and easing movement within the community.
The completion of the project is seen as part of ongoing efforts by the Senator to expand infrastructure and stimulate economic growth across communities in the District.
Road users who spoke to journalists described the project as a major breakthrough as the new road now serves as an alternative to the heavily congested Afor-Agulu Market Road.
They also observed that the road improves connectivity to neighbouring communities such as Nanka in Orumba North LGA, Ekwulobia in Aguata LGA, Adazi in Anaocha, and Awka in Awka South LGA, being the State Capital.
Also expressing their feelings and gratitude, Community leaders and residents who spoke to journalists, affirmed that the development had brought great relief to the people after many years of hardship caused by the dilapidated access roads.
“This road is life-changing. It will reduce traffic, improve business activities and make life easier for residents,” a community stakeholder, Silas Ike said.
However, Beyond road construction, Senator Umeh has undertaken several development initiatives in Agulu, including the full completion of classroom blocks at St. Albert the Great School and the fencing of Union Secondary School, Umunnowu, to enhance security for students and staff.
In the area of power and infrastructure, a 300kVA transformer was installed in Obeagu Village, while the Igwe Agulu Central Palace benefitted from solar-powered electrification.
The Senator has also implemented empowerment programmes, including agricultural training for about 500 residents, distribution of fertilisers to farmers and provision of over 129,000 kilogrammes of rice as food palliatives.
Youth development has equally featured in the interventions, with employment opportunities created for 35 persons in the district as well as scholarships awarded to 327 students, including beneficiaries from Agulu.
Observers say the completion of the Nneoha–Nwanchi Road underscores the growing focus on grassroots development and infrastructure delivery within Anambra Central.
Residents expressed optimism that the new road would enhance mobility, stimulate commerce and support long-term growth in the community.
For many in Agulu, the project is not just a road, but a symbol of progress and a renewed hope for sustainable development.
