The Ondo State Police Command on Tuesday, foiled a kidnap attempt in Oba-Ile Akure, rescuing a victim and arresting one suspect following a swift response by its operatives.

Police Operatives on routine patrol intercepted the car after they received intelligence report that a man was being held against his will inside a moving vehicle.

The report said that the victim was heard shouting for help from within a red Toyota Camry, prompting officers to immediately mobilise and pursue the suspected kidnappers.

In a desperate bid to evade arrest, the suspects reportedly pushed the victim, identified as Kayode Alaba, out of the moving vehicle during the chase.

The police team, however, continued the pursuit, leading to the arrest of one suspect, Adegbenro Adeola, while other members of the gang escaped.

The vehicle used in the operation was also recovered.

Investigations revealed that the victim was abducted from his residence along Irese Road in Akure before the intervention of the police.

The victim was taken to a medical facility for treatment, while the arrested suspect is assisting investigators with information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing members of the gang.

The case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit for further investigation.

Commending the operatives, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies to aid ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities.
