Anambra State Government, has continued to ring it to the consciousness of the residents of the state of its free Blood Pressure check in all Primary and Secondary health facilities in the state.
Coming from the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike who has held it as a duty to warn residents to “know your numbers” every time there was the opportunity to talk to the press.
According to him, check your health against silent killers like the blood pressure and blood sugar; checking of the BP in all government owned Primary and Secondary Health Facilities is free.
During the press briefing at the World Health Day in Awka on May 18, 2026, Dr. Obidike said the commemoration provides the ministry with another opportunity to raise the awareness about hypertension, which is one of the deadliest non-communicable diseases in the society.
Speaking in reference to the theme of this year’s event, ‘Controlling Hypertension Together, Check Your Blood Pressure Regularly and Defeat The Silent Killer’, the Commissioner described hypertension as the main cause of cardiovascular disease, with about one billion people living with it globally.
According to the Commissioner, the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has identified the disease as a health threat, and the ministry of health is currently carrying out an aggressive campaign against hypertension.
“The current administration has introduced the “Solution Know Your Number” to put hypertension in check.
“We have mapped out a proactive measure for adequate sensitisation of Ndi Anambra to access medications they need for effective management and treatment of BP.
“The checks are free of charge for every resident irrespective of tribe, ethnic and religious affiliations and the gesture is currently ongoing across the state-owned hospitals, including Chukwuemeka Odumegewu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka and the General Hospital at Enugwukwu.”
“Anambra state will not relent in keeping its residents free from sickness and healthy at all times,” Dr. Obidike said.
