International General Manager, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku, has unveiled plans for the club to make history with the establishment and participation of its female team in the Nigerian Women’s Football League (NWFL) during the 2026/2027 football season.
Ezeaku made this known during a press briefing in Enugu, where he disclosed that the club would soon commence open screening for talented female footballers interested in earning a place in the team. He assured that the women’s side would receive the same level of attention, commitment and support being given to the Rangers men’s team, stressing that the initiative was part of the club’s broader vision for sustainable development.

The Rangers General Manager also revealed plans for the club to take some of its activities to Awka, Anambra State, particularly as the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu undergoes major rehabilitation. He commended the Enugu State Governor, Barr. Peter Mbah, for his support and investments in sports and infrastructure, noting that the governor’s efforts were creating an environment capable of supporting the growth and development of Rangers.
Ezeaku further disclosed that Rangers has ambitious long-term plans, including the development of a stadium with a capacity of at least 10,000 spectators. He described the proposed infrastructure development as part of the club’s determination to build a stronger sporting institution capable of serving its supporters and producing opportunities for young talents across the region.
He stressed that the South-East remains the natural home of Rangers, given the club’s historic role in promoting unity and sporting identity in the region. According to him, Rangers must continue to regard every state in the South-East as part of its home, while expanding its reach and strengthening its relationship with supporters across the region.
Ezeaku also confirmed that Coach Favour Anieke would continue to lead the Rangers women’s team as the club prepares for its NWFL campaign. He said the women’s project would be approached with the same seriousness and institutional backing as the men’s team, with the ultimate objective of building a competitive side capable of making a lasting impact in Nigerian women’s football.
