Leaders and prisidetiof the six opposition parties are intensifying consultations with five presidential candidates are contmmplating forming alliance.

The parties — African Democratic Congress (ADC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) — met under the G-100 opposition platform in Abuja.

Former APC National Vice Chairman (North-West), Salihu Mohammed Lukman, in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, on behalf of the coalition, explained that the meeting was to actualize resolutions reached at the G-100 Opposition Summit.

Lukman disclosed that the coalition has already met with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), Peter Obi of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

He affirmed that the consultations are focused on building a framework for cooperation, agreeing on common issues affecting the country and ensuring credibility of the electoral process in 2027.

“The challenges confronting Nigeria demand serious engagement across party lines. This is about Nigeria’s future, not narrow partisan interests,” Lukman noted.

Meanwhile, political analysts have described the move as a major shift from the fragmented opposition that contested the last 2023 general elections separately, which paved way for the All Progressive Congress APC’s victory.

They observed that with Atiku and Obi who together polled over 12 million votes , and now, Makinde, the opposition is testing the waters for a single presidential ticket or at least a strategic alliance that could force a run-off.

Lukman said talks and consultations are ongoing and more engagements will follow in the coming weeks.
