Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Lady Mrs Ndidi Mezue, has visited the three children rescued from one Rejoice Raymond and her aged mother, Chidi Felicia Nwafor, on 19th February, 2021, whom reports said pound children alive for ritual purposes.

The kids were rescued in a raid carried out by policemen attached to 3-3 Police Station, Nkwelle Ezunaka, and taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.

Recall during the raid that evening, the three children were found naked with their hands and legs tied, as the women were alleged to pound those kids in mortar for their devilish intentions.

Lady Ndidi expressed shock at the level of inhuman treatment the children were subjected to, as they had scars, with fresh bruises from a purported infliction meted on them.

The doctor on call briefed the Commissioner on the extensive and prompt medical attention given to the kids so far since they were admitted, as Lady Mezue emphasised that such report will guide the Ministry on when it will be safe to move them.

The kids were beginning to show sign of life except for the girl among them, Gift, who according to the Doctor, was said to sustain fracture in her arm, but is being taken care of.

For the kids, Jeff, Ikechukwu and Gift, the visit of the Commissioner brought gleams of hope, after the torturous experience they were subjected to at their tender age.

With the case now transferred to the State CID, Awka, Lady Mezue assured that the case will be given the much accelerated hearing, adding that everyone involved in the dastardly act, will face the full weight of the law.

She further expressed the State Government commitment, through the Ministry, to continue to fight all forms of child abuses in Anambra.

The Commissioner also presented some items including clothes and enough provisions to sustain them during their stay at the hospital, to aid their quick recovery.

Also, a special nurse from the Ministry was assign to them, to look after them.
The Commissioner had earlier stopped at the 33 Police Station, Nkwelle, where she met with the CSP Bawa Sale, appreciating him and his men for their conduct and prompt response.
