Nigeria is set to receive about four million doses of vaccines from the COVAX facility for Covid-19 treatment today.
This was disclosed by the chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and secretary to the Government of the Federation , Boss Mustapha late Saturday night.
He said that, according to the information by the United Nations Children’s Fund, the vaccines would come into the Federal Capital Territory , Abuja on March 2 at about 11:10 am in the morning.
He said that the vaccines from the COVAX facility , which is free of charge , will cover about 20 percent of the Nigerian Population.
He also said that they are expecting about 41 million doses from another source of vaccines from the AVAD facility , which is the African Vaccine Action Team, which is a combination of AstraZeneca and Johnson Johnson.
He said that the AstraZeneca has a good ravage in terms of storage because it uses +2 +8 percent of refrigeration. He said that it doesn’t come with any complication.
He said that the country is poised to receive the vaccines but also cautioned that it is going to be a combination of vaccines with non pharmaceutical measures that will keep the coronavirus away.
Mustapha said that by the time 70 percent of the people are vaccinated, the country wi.be arriving by the point of herd immunity.
