It said the recent incessant attacks on the Security agencies and formations in Anambra State and the Southeast in general by unknown gunmen have become worrisome and should be condemned by all well meaning Ndi Anambra in particular and Nigerians in general.
ASATU President, Barrister T. Akpudo, in a statement released in Awka, said there is no reason to justify the unlawful taking of human lives that has now become the order of the day in the State.
He pointed out that whatever be the case, the perpetrators of this dastardly act should see the need to put an end to it.
The ASATU President maintained that the South Easterners, especially Anambrians, are not known for unnecessary wanton bloodshed as they value human lives and always do their best to preserve life at all times.
He noted the gruesome murder of their colleague, late Barrister Francis Onwuachi, PG Omor, few weeks ago, and series of targeted attacks on their colleagues and security officials, calling on Government and Security Agencies to intensify efforts in bringing normalcy to the State.
The ASATU President noted that Anambra has been adjudged a peaceful State in terms of security and should not be allowed to degenerate into a state of lawlessness.
Barrister Akpudo said the State Government should also consider upgrading the operational status of Anambra Vigilante Services via security gadgets, logistics and mobility to complement the effort of the front line security agencies for more effective and efficient security service delivery to communities in particular and the State at large
He applauded the state Government for standing up to tackle the rising cases of insecurity in the state, especially for the apprehension of some criminals in connection with the Prof. Soludo Matter, urging him not to relent until the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The ASATU President also sympathised with the families of the gallant officers who paid the ultimate price, and the Commissioner of Police, Monday Kuryas, for the loss of his men in all the vicious and unwarranted attacks, praying God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
