Aguluzigbo community in Anaocha council area of Anambra state has celebrated 2022 new yam festival.
The celebration held on the 26th of August 2022 at the Palace of HRH Igwe Ugochukwu Rufus Ilodiuba where many traditional rulers from Neni, Akwaeze, Obeledu and many others came to celebrate with him and was concluded on 27th August at Aguluzigbo central field.
According to Igwe Ugochukwu Rufus, the igbo Calendar historically starts in August during the harvest of farm produce especially the yam as the king of crops, adding that it is a thing of joy to thank God for his protection through out the year till the month of August , the time for harvest.
Speaking to Kpakpando correspondent Igwe Ugochukwu Ilodiuba, explained that he usually celebrate the new yam first, before the entire community signifying that Ndi Aguluzoigbo can now eat and sale thier new yams in the market.
Contributing, Hon Micheal Chukwunweikem, the President general of Aguluzigbo development Union, who is also the first national assistant secretary of ASATU, described the new yam festival as an annual celebration of Ndi igbo which avail every community to showcase their respective deep cultural heritage, which he further explained that Aguluzigbo town cerebrate hers new yam festival on every last Friday of August of every year.
He thanked friend and well wishers who graed the occasion even as he prayed for journey mercies for all back to thier various destination.
High points of the event were prizes for the winners of the new yam competition, of which The first prize is Samsung Led 26ichs TV, second prize is LG 24ichs TV and third prize is LG 22ichs TV.C
