Afam Osigwe, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has been elected the 32nd President of the Nigerian Bar Association. Osigwe won the election held on Saturday with 20,435 votes, defeating Tobenna Ikwuazom, who received 10,998 votes. Another candidate, Chukwuka Ikuazom, who withdrew midway, garnered 9,018 votes.
The election saw 40,451 votes cast electronically by NBA members, with Osigwe set to take over from the outgoing president, Yakubu Maikyau, in August. Osigwe, a former General Secretary of the NBA, has a 25-year legal career and aims to tackle corruption within the Bar and judiciary.
The new president will be inaugurated during the NBA’s Annual Conference in Lagos from August 23 to 28.
