Hamas has vowed not to release the hostages taken during their October 7 attack on Israel until the Gaza war comes to an end, despite the death of their leader Yahya Sinwar, which has raised concerns and hopes about the conflict’s direction.
Qatar-based Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya reiterated this stance, maintaining that the group would only consider releasing hostages if the attacks on Gaza stopped.
Sinwar, believed to be the mastermind behind the attack, was killed in an Israeli airstrike, marking what Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called “the beginning of the end” of Hamas’s rule. However, Israel continues its military campaign in Gaza, with the conflict causing significant casualties on both sides, including a humanitarian crisis for Gaza’s civilians.
The war, sparked by the October 7 Hamas-led attack on Israel, has left thousands dead and created a dire situation, especially for Gaza’s children. Meanwhile, Hezbollah and other Iran-aligned groups have pledged ongoing support for Hamas.
