
It has been reported that South Africa recorded 2 792 new Covid-19 infections by Monday and 67 new Covid-19-related deaths, taking the official death toll to 56,506.
According to a statement by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, as of Monday, the country recorded a total of 1, 665, 617 confirmed Covid-19 cases.
The total number of people vaccinated is 970, 448. A total of 2, 129 vaccine shots were administered in the last 24-hour cycle. Of the total number of people vaccinated, 490, 680 received the Pfizer vaccine in phase two of the national vaccine rollout.
Gauteng recorded the most confirmed active cases with 15 397, followed by the Free State with 8, 374 and the Northern Cape with 8,264.
South Africa has a recovery rate is 93.6%, and 1, 559, 337 recoveries have been recorded.
Mkhize said that to date, 11, 631 ,239 tests have been completed, with 24, 669 tests conducted in the last 24-hour cycle.
Mkhize also reported a further 67 Covid-19-related deaths, which brings the total to 56, 506 official deaths.
He convey condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thanked the healthcare workers who treated the deceased.
