Students Urged To Desist Form Exam Misconduct, Cult Activities
The newly admitted students of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze, have been advised to shun examination misconduct, cult related activities and other vices.
The Provost of the institution, Prof. Theresa Okoli, gave the advice during the 36th/14th Joint Matriculation Ceremony for incoming students of the college who enrolled in the Nigerian Certificate of Education (NCE) degree and Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) programmes respectively.
She stressed the need for them to pursue their studies diligently, and cautioned that the College frowns at any misconduct that can jeopardize their future, noting that the College has not recorded any cult-related incident for more than 15 years.
“We will continue to guard this record gallantly and ensure that no criminal gang or insidious group creeps into this peaceful campus.
“Note that Students must record 75 percent attendance to lectures before they could write any examination.
“Students who play truancy during lectures will ‘bear the blame. Attendance list must be signed in every lecture room during classes. As you take your matriculation vow today, I urge you to maintain your promise by
conducting yourself with decorum throughout the period of your studies.
“The social media has reduced the world to a global village, and you are part of this
digital age. With your phone, you can access information that can give you an edge over others. With such information and ideas, you can rule the world.
“I encourage you to use your data profitably by accessing academic work. Do not spend your precious time on idle-chats. Set goals for yourself and make a decision to be at the top.Your race for the future has started” she pointed out.
She further charged the fresh students to live up to the expectations by utilising the free ICT training and the well equipped solar powered virtual library in the institution.
”I wish to remind you
also that your admission to this institution was strictly on merit and it is expected that you live up to the desired expectation.This institution lays strong emphasis on excellence in character and diligence in
learning.
“The College runs NCE, Degree (in affiliation with Nnamdi Azikiwe University,
Awka) and Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) programmes. The NCE, Degree and PDE programmes of the College have full accreditation by the regulatory bodies.
“The College made ICT training compulsory for all students. The digital revolution
in the world today is ICT-driven, and all students are expected to be ICT- compliant. The College ICT Academy trains students in various Computer programmes and
packages.
“The Virtual Library provides free internet services for staff and students to
carry out their research with ease. The College Library is rated among the largest in
the south east zone, with solar-powered electricity.
“WIFI network would soon be activated on campus in line with our vision to make this College a digital college.
“Our goal is to make FCE (T) Umunze a centre of excellence, where students come out in flying colours. Every student of this College is the centerpiece of this lofty dream.
“The College Management will continue to provide the required facilities and resources for
excellence to thrive. I therefore call on our parents in Anambra and other neighbouring states to encourage their children to study in this College. The government is providing
necessary support to encourage youths to enroll in tertiary institution, especially those studying education courses.
